Ate here last week with my wife. They had 3 brews made in house, I had the stout, very good but tasted more like an amber and wasn't very dark. My wife had a lighter beer that had some a taste of hot pepper. That one was delicious. Our app was the mussels in white wine garlic. Awesome! For dinner I had a burger and she had a salad. Cleaned the plates! Waiter was very helpful and attentive.

Probably really deserved 4 1/2 but rather error up on this places then down...Calamari was the best I ever had. I had blackened Mahi Mahi was great, My girlfriend had seafood scampi & requested no lobster, it was good but barely any garlic at all which is a disappointment when you love garlic. One of her daughters had swordfish which was a special and was good the other had a burger. One daughter ordered a mudslide it was ok & $9....The Oar at new harbor had better cheaper ones...... Service was very good....Prices were good considering location. Would come here again.

I recently had dinner here. It was absolutely delish. They were very accommodating to my dairy allergy. The pad thai was great. The micro brews are fantastic and give you the choice to have a sampler of them all. Great place to stop right before catching the ferry.

Great food but disappointing beer. (Opposite of typical brewery.) Best dishes: * Vegetarian chili nachos with a side of fresh salsa * Ceviche, fresh and tasty * Scallops, the winner Very good service, and excellent mixed drinks. Sadly, the home brewed beer was not adequately flavorful.

We were here last week and had the New England clam chowder which was great and the calamari which was tender but pretty tasteless. Service and drinks were pretty good, and I liked the ambiance. Would go back.

Food and service was perfect! Calamari is amazing and the seafood pasta is the best I've had EVER. I literally had like 6 lobster claws and like 20 scallops! So yummy!! Our waiter was super helpful and very nice!

This cafe is in an easy to find location on Water Street directly across from the ferry terminal at Old Harbor on the island. Overall, the food is pretty good and you do get good service. We visited on a Saturday night around 8:00, and it certainly was busy, but it began to clear out as the departure time of the last ferry approached. However, although it did clear out, the restaurant's acoustics make it difficult to hear even people at your own table if a loud group is in the main dining area. We ordered appetizers, and we tried the calamari, the smoked salmon flatbread, and the ceviche. The calamari was cooked excellently well, but it came with a very small amount of sauce and very few jalapeño rings (RI style includes these). The ceviche was very good, but it wasn't chopped up into small enough pieces to eat it sufficiently well on the nachos provided--all shrimp were in whole pieces. It might be best for the restaurant to consider serving it with something like pita bread. The flatbread was great, and the blueberry ale was very good. Overall you get a decent dining experience here. However it, like many places on the main stretch, is a magnet for party groups, so don't expect a quiet dinner.

If you are looking the save a few dollars on the main drag this is the place you will probably end up. Had the mahi mahi sandwich which tasted like someone dropped it in the salt container and was fishing around for it for hours causing the fish to absorb ungodly amounts of salt. It was not good if I haven't painted a good enough picture for you. Then there was the burger which I judge all restaurants by. If you can't make a decent burger I question all your meal producing capabilities. It was dry as a bone and sandwiched between an enormous dry loaf. The service was actually really good which saves this from a 1 star review.

Showed up here on the earliest ferry ride we could find, and realized that 10am was probably too early to start hitting the breweries. After mucking around the island for the rest of the day, we circled back to the Mohegan to see what we had waited for all day. We sat down with another couple and both ordered a beer flight to whet our palate. Our sampler included a blueberry, pilsner, wheat beer and a stout, which all sounded very exciting from the mouth of the waitress. As a group, we sampled each beer at the same time, and unanimously we rose to the same conclusion on each. Every single beer was watery, virtually flavorless, and muddled, with no precise notes or highlights. We were very disappointed, and had expected so much more from this brewery. On the high notes, the Hot Sauce Chicken Fingers ($8.95) were spicy, perfectly cooked, and juicy, delightful to say the least. Location is amazing, directly on the water with amazing views, accessible for walking or driving, with convenient street parking. I think our expectations were shattered on the beer side, but absolutely floored by the food. That said, with the options across the island, with virtually amazing views and locations anywhere you look, I'm surprised that they can sustain themselves with less than mediocre brews.

Excellent lunch and great service! I eat mostly vegetarian and the Cafe Salad here is large and loaded with high nutrition vegetables like spinach, broccoli, field greens. Ginger beer is brewed on premises (along with some great beers but I haven't tried those yet), and it really hit the spot after breathing diesel fumes on the ferry ride over. Mary got a salad topped with lightly battered calamari which was also delicious and Kayla got his gigantic loaded nachos plate that was too much for us to finish, even as a team. Ali got a veggie wrap that was good but she felt it had too much vinaigrette. I unwrapped her second half and polished it off. We even got carried away and finished with a slice of chocolate cake (heavy on the fudgey ganache) and a delicious cheesecake. Loved everything and I hope to go back for the brews.

  • Hana A.

Ordered the ultimate nachos, coconut shrimp, ceviche, and blueberry ale. Everything was pretty average. The ceviche is usually supposed to be raw and diced up, but there was nothing raw and the shrimp was not diced at all. Service was pretty good- waiter was attentive and he came from New Zealand for the summer.

When on BI, it's always good to have a reasonably priced lunch/dinner spot to count on. For me, Mohegan has been just that. While most restaurants on the island are going to run you more than fifteen bucks a plate, MC is the place where you can still get a great meal for ten bucks and under. I've had a couple of good dishes, but on my most recent trip I had one of their specials, an awesome blackened mahi mahi sandwich. The fish was cooked and seasoned perfectly and was on a fluffy brioche bun. I opted to get a side of mango chutney instead of the aioli which was delicious. I went with the sweet potato fries for a small up-charge, but the crinkle cut fries were worth it. They are a brewery, but for the most part I am not a huge fan of the brews. This is not because they aren't well made, but I feel like most of the beers they make our Belgian style and that is just not my favorite. I've had their red ale, IPA and a porter at different times I've been and the only one I really cared for was the porter. The other two were a bit sweet for my taste. I'd like to try their cocktails some time. The atmosphere is pub like and very laid back. The service is friendly and we didn't wait long to be seated or have our order taken. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and we enjoyed out experience throughout. I will definitely be back, as this has become my go to place on the island when I don't want anything too expensive or fancy. The atmosphere is casual and fun and the food is always good.

I really enjoyed my experience at the Mohegan Cafe and Brewery in Block Island! I had a few beers, and really enjoyed the Red ale - and had a great jerk chicken sandwich. I also enjoyed shooting the breeze with the bartender. Good spot, if back on BI - I'll be back.

Crab cake sandwich is not on the menu. Ask for it if you like crab. Mahi sandwich, French Dip and the Cajun chicken sandwich are equally good. Sweet potato fries are yum. Quantity is pretty big.

I went here on the week before Memorial Day weekend. I had been here once before and remembered it as being very good. The service was fantastic and our server was very nice and we had a friendly conversation with him about life on the island. He even told us where to go to rent bikes. Food was delicious, I had some of the best chowder I've ever had and it was so good that the rest of the people I was with ending up having it too after trying a free sample. I ordered the chicken philly , my aunt fish and chips, my uncle a salad, my cousin and philly steak and cheese, and his girlfriend also fish and chips. Food arrived quickly and was gone pretty fast. My aunt said the fish and chips were the best she's ever had. My chicken philly was cooked to perfection, same with the philly cheese steak, and my uncles salad was absolute delicious. No complaints from us and we left a very generous tip. I am going to block island later this week and this is the place I am going for lunch. Wonderful place to eat!!! Oh and the place is pretty cheap too.

Get their cheese nachos appetizer!!!! The best nachos I have ever tasted in my life!!!!! The servings are huge so make sure you are super hungry before coming. Very decent price as well!

One of the few places in the Block that I would stop again. Good beer, good hamburger, a friendly crew. Just a nice place to feel comfortable and enjoy good food.

  • Hannah G.

Great atmosphere and the waitress was cute as a button (we think her name is Michelle) . We came in during the world cup game and even though it was a little crowded, the food came out incredibly fast! The food was delicious. Not too many vegetarian options, but enough to keep a vegetarian full. Chicken caprice salad with balsamic dressing (recommended by the waitress) was a huge hit. My only criticism was the restroom was a mess and out of toilet paper, but not a big deal and totally redeemed by how nice the staff and our waitress was. We'll be back!

  • Melissa R.

The Mohegan cafe is a decent option for casual dinner and less expense than at most other Block Island dinner spots. Dinner will cost about $75 depending on what you order and how much you drink. The wait staff is friendly and efficient. The food is fine but nothing spectacular. My husband and I both had the cafe's own IPA and found it passable but rather ordinary.

  • Tracy B.

We enjoyed lunch here yesterday & dinner tonight. The French onion soup was delicious for lunch. Tonight, coconut shrimp were a very good appetizer. 4 very large shrimp. The dipping sauce was delicious. For dinner, Scallop Ravioli. The raviolis were sundried tomato, topped with scallops, asparagus, walnuts & sun dried tomatoes in a creamy pesto sauce. Excellent! Our waitress was friendly & service was excellent even though the place was completely full. Nice job!

Disappointing experience that didn't have to be. Had lunch here today, in a group of 4. We ordered 2 burgers with fries, a turkey wrap, and a Cuban sandwich with slaw. Burgers were ordered rare and medium but both came no - pink at all, and my daughter was complaining that hers was "dry". The turkey wrap was enjoyed but noted that it oddly had a piece of toast at its center? To bulk it perhaps? Strange. I was really disappointed with my Cubano - no pulled pork, just a thin slice of roast pork with a few pickle chips and a small slice of Swiss. Instead of the traditional mustard, there was hot chili sauce, as in a Thai dish. Not enjoyable at all. If I am going to calorie - splurge, then I want what I order. The cole slaw was terrible, that stuff you buy in a pail that is more cold cabbage stew. I didn't touch it. I am giving two stars for the service, which is very good. Our waiter, a guy in his mid forties, was personable and knew his job well.

Hearty portions, efficient staff, fair prices considering quality and portion size (compared to other spots on the island)

Big disappointment. Are here 3 years ago and had one of best fish dinners of my life- blue fish which was a surprise in itself. The menu highlighted freshly caught and it was absolutely delicious. This year- not only was the bluefish not available, tr swordfish I ordered was sub par, dry and really disappointing. My kids were served grilled chicken sandwich- no lettuce, no tomato, no mayo- just dry chicken and roll. Lastly, for a place that boasts about being islands owns brewery, they were out of 3 of the 5 micro beers! The next night I discovered what happened here- new management- someone who owns a bunch of places on the island. Obviously the concern for quality is gone now. Don't waste your money here

Inexpensive (on BI?!?!...yes, on BI) lunch joint on the main drag of town center. Ordered a caesar salad with grilled shrimp. Shrimp was awesome, salad was slightly wilty, but overall quite good. Tried the fish and chips. Fish was AWESOME and whatever batter they use was perfect. Their beers leave something to be desired. We tried the pilsner and were not impressed. Overall, good place to grab lunch and enjoy the view and people-watching on the Block.

I've been here several times and while it's usually ok, tonight made me rethink the rating I'd give. First I ordered their own autumn wheat beer and I got it and it tasted sour and vinegary. I sent it back and the waitress happily replaced it with another, this time the stout. The stout was just ok - as was the food. I had the malai kofta risotto. It was a bit over spiced for my taste but ok. I probably wouldn't go back because there are so many other great dining options in the area.

What a great find! Our bartender Paul recommended great food options, played quarterback to our needs from drinks to laughter. The spot is low key, a great location and we went back a second time, the very next day. Giving it 4 out of 5 stars simply bc they should grill their hot dogs versus boil. But the steak-n-cheese was awesome.

The server was a nice young guy who was trained well, I give it that. The seviche (sic) was not fresh with limp shrimp and small scallops. I thought it would be fresh seafood but I could taste the frozen-ness of it. Maybe it was marinating too long and the shrimp just got limp, either way, the flavor was less sweet seafood and more cardboard with lime on it. The server offered to remove the item from the bill and I reordered the coconut shrimp which was a little heavily breaded but tasted pretty good (4 pieces) with plumper, fresher shrimp. My friend had an okay chicken caprese salad with dryish chicken but a nice lemony-orange dressing. I guess our NYC taste buds are spoiled because it seemed like everyone else enjoyed their food here on Yelp!

Stopped in on our short vaca in July for an earlish dinner 5:30pm. The place was not busy at all. We were seated right away. We ordered drink a hewey Lewis which was blueberry vodka, selzer, and lemonade and my husband ordered a drink with mango rum, oj, and sierra mist. His was ok. Mine however did not taste like lemonade at all and had black things floating in it. They remade it And it still came with black things floating in it. We decided to share the calamari and loaded nachos. Calamari could have been cooked longer. The Nachos were ok but there was way too much toppings for the amount of chips given. Which made the chips a soggy mess.

Big selection on menu. I love the vegetarian chili, but ask for "no raw onions" on top. It's a hefty serving -- about 2 cups -- and a great, healthy value at under $7. Heard the burger was great. I like to sit at the bar to eat when alone, and they have plenty of seating in the bar and in the dining room.

  • Stacey M.

Good service, but food was ... not good, and their beer was worse. Coconut shrimp was left in fryer too long and dark brown to burnt. Burger ordered MW came out MR. Sauce on kids pasta just didn't taste good. Fries had no salt or seasoning at all, and no flavor. Don't they know you need to salt fries?? French onion soup was good. Pork on pork salad was dry. Their beer was really bad, probably the worst I have ever had - it all tasted watered down. Literally as if they had filled the sampler glasses with half beer and half water. Their menu says it is light and server tried to defend their beer as different... but it was watery and tasteless ... for $9? All 4 beers were way off the mark. And the bathrooms were dirty and messy .... I know it's September and they probably got hammered all summer ... but that is no excuse ... this was really bad and a waste of over $125.

Great food and beer. I had the beer flight sampler of 4 beers and the cheese nachos and all of it was fantastic. My wife had the chicken caprese salad and said it was one of the best she ever had. Service was good and for any beer lovers out there this is a brewpub you shouldn't miss, they have at least five of their own recipe on tap at anytime.

Stopped here on our trip to Block Island. Delicious house made beer - IPA, Pilsner, Striper Ale and wheat. Apple crisp was delicious. Gets packed at night for dinners and is a great family spot. Highly recommended!

I walked by this place on two trips to BI, assuming it was gimmicky trash. Honestly, you can't tell by the looks on people's faces in the window how good it is. First of all, as a homebrewer, I was personally blown away by how good their beers were. I had the IPA, which had an intensely beautiful citrus flavor, and also I tried the Apricot IPA (seasonal) which had tons of apricot flavor and nose. My girlfriend also tried the Mohegan Pilsner. I am not a big lager drinker, but the flavor this thing brought was great! The beers are brewed on site in 10gal batches and have no filtering, and could use some Irish moss, but who cares, it tastes good. We ordered buffalo wings not expecting anything, but we were both blown away as soon as it hit our tongues. Incredibly tasty! I ordered the Chicken Philly sandwich expecting a crappy chicken sandwich with cheese on it, but it had peppers, onions, mushrooms, and a crapload of tasty spices on a French bread roll. Let me warn you that it's pretty spicy, and that's what the beer is for. Best of all, it was 5 o'clock and they still gave us the lunch menu with their reasonable lunch prices. Beats Ballards and other raping restaurants. Don't be fooled, this place is no joke.

This place is across the street from the ferry terminal in the heart of Old Harbor. The food is tasty even though it probably doesn't have to be considering the location and the amount of foot traffic in that area. I got the Spinach & Calamari salad and a cup of clam chowder, and my husband got the Blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich. Plus 2 lemonades and 2 beers came to a total of $39 before tip. Our server was attentive and overall service was fast. We were there early (about 4pm) for a meal before our 5pm ferry. The restaurant practically filled to capacity at 4:15pm with several groups who were also trying to order food before the 5pm ferry. TIP: Give yourself more than 45 minutes to get in and out before your ferry since everyone else is thinking the same thing. The only, and biggest, con is that there is no outdoor seating. We were there on a gorgeous day and had to sit inside.

Tavern type of restaurant, a very dark setting with large wooden tables. I had a Dark and Stormy (rum with real ginger beer). Delicious! The meal was great, too, for pub food. We shared the fried calamari to start, which came topped with banana peppers and with a side of spicy cocktail sauce. Really great. For entrees we had the veggie burger and the chicken caprese salad. The salad came with a Grand Marnier dressing that was so damn good I almost asked for the recipe.

We went for dinner a little later in the evening. This was my first time on Block Island and didn't realize the waterfront "slows" down a bit fairly early. I had wanted a burger Med. Rare with Cheddar and Bacon. I got it with Swiss, Bacon and well done. Oh well. The home brewed beers were very good.

"Block Island Brew" by Josh K. When stranded on an island in the middle of the Atlantic, the last thing you would think to find is a homey neighborhood cafe and bar serving decently priced, tasty pub food with their own micro brews on tap. On Block Island, only footsteps from the ferry lies the Mohegan Cafe, a distinctively touristy, yet un-touristy (if that makes any sense) gem. After peddling around the island all morning, nothing sounds quite so good as a big sandwich of fresh Mahi Mahi with a spicy chipotle aioli chased down with a fresh Apricot IPA. Local fisherman come here for the strong drinks. Tourists for the fair prices, familiar food with a seafood twist, and good beer. Last year we were pleasantly surprised when we ordered Chicken Fingers w/ hot sauce and were served authentic Buffalo style, perfectly meaty, spicy, saucy, yet crisp. The only flaw I can seem to find is that the cafe lacks an outside seating area. We hope to make visiting Block Island an annual tradition, and if so, the Mohegan Cafe will most certainly be part of that tradition.

Brew master Dave has an unique take on his beers, largely unfiltered, (which I don't like this style), but also a good local selection. Food was very good, and a very reasonable price. Waitress didn't charge me for the immediately returned home-brew.

Looking for a place to eat after a day at the island, we landed here based on the reviews. Good choice, the fried calimari was served fast and the food was delicious. I had a stuffed flounder with rice and vegetables, just delicious. The beer brew on site was so good, i had a wheat beer that is served with lemon. Great place.

Went here for a late lunch in the off season (it was one of the few places open). I had the fish and chips ($12), he had the burger ($9). Both were well made, the fries were just normal frozen kind a lil on the cold side but okay. I got a large pc of haddock, it was tasty and well cooked. His burger was made to order, no problems with it, how can you mess up a burger tho? We also ordered some of there made on site beer, wasn't the worst beer, but not the best either. The Chilil pepper beer was a bit odd tho but for 9 bucks you can get a small taste of 4 different kinds of beers. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Stopped in for an early dinner and was very impressed. My wife is a vegetarian and this was one of the few places on Water street offering a vegetarian entree. I had a spoonful and it was wonderful! I had a very spicy seafood soup that was also really good. Service was fantastic and we really enjoyed the meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I spent two weeks working on the island and had dinner here. I knew it was the only brewery on the island so I had to check it out. The one pint of beer I had was good, the bartender was friendly, and the food was good. Would go there again especially on a day with bad weather since seating is all indoors.

There's not much to say other than I love it! Try the coconut shrimp! It's is to die for: always crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside...full of flavor. I can truthfully say that the clam chowder is one of my favorites one of the best I've ever had. Thick and creamy, lots of potatoes. So good. My most recent visit, I order the scallop ravioli. It was pretty good. Not my favorite there but certainly good. I would definitely try out mohegan

Great salads! We had the grilled tuna salad with clementines, wasabi peas and tangy sesame dressing. Yummy, reasonably priced fresh food by the ferry. The caprese is good too. Wish they had outdoor seating!

I came here while visiting Block Island for my sister's wedding. The first name we came here it was very crowded, but we were seated right away. I liked the divey cafe look and the inside was decorated very nicely. After we were seated a waitress came and started to take drink orders, the cool thing about this place is that they brew their own beer, and thats a +++ in my book. I started off with a Apricot Wheat beer and i have to say that it was very good! For a home brewed beer made with apricots it sure had a nice fruity taste and a mellow finish from the wheat. We had a party of six and we got enough food to feed an army. We ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer and my brother-in-law ordered the nachos. The nachos itself could have fed the whole table is was that big. The bruschetta was very good with the chopped up mushroom and tomatoes. I ordered the pork salad which was something I never had before, usually always have salad with chicken, but this was like a Oriental salad and it was very delectable. The dressing on the salad was very sweet, tangy, and tasty! The next day my girlfriend and I stopped in to grab a quick lunch before the wedding. We both ordered Bloody Marys and The Reuben Sandwich, which was outta this world good! The bread was toasted to perfection, the meat was just right, and the dressing in combination with the kraut just blew my taste buds away. If i did ever come back to Block Island I would most definitely hit this spot again.

One of my favorite places to eat on the island!!! The salad with fresh tuna is my favorite, crisp, light & refreshing!! Good variety on the menu. Great cocktails & beer selection! Close to the ferry, pretty view and right on the main stretch!

I went to dinner there last weekend and both evenings the meals were amazing. Large servings and delicious ingredients. Also recommend trying their brewed beers - also very good - ask about their High Octane ones and you get a interesting background on them. I would highly recommend this place.

We have been eating at this restaurant for 16 years whenever we visit Block Island, since our honeymoon. This was our first bad experience. Our waitress took the order for our table of five without writing anything down. We were a little puzzled at how she could remember everything, but we figured that she knew what she was doing. Wrong. She completely forgot one of our orders. We needed to keep asking for drinks, and she kept not bringing them.repeatedly. Like three or more times. No apologies or any appearance of regret. It's possible that she was just having an off day, or that she's just not a competent waitress. But we couldn't help wondering if there was another reason. We were there with our adopted kids, who are of various colors. Block Island is definitely not a diverse place, and we do tend to stick out like sore thumbs, but most of the time people are fine with us, and I tend to forget that we're not a typical family. But once my husband questioned whether our appearance could have been the reason for the atrocious treatment we were getting, neither of us could get it out of our minds and it ruined our experience and cast a pall over an otherwise wonderful day. The food was fine, as usual, but I'm sad to say that we will not be back.

Best wait service hands down on BI with bartender, Colby. She was on top of everything and had it well under control. Refreshing to see compared to most places on Island or anywhere. Food was very good and beer was excellent. Definitely a hidden gem on Block Island!

Mediocre food. Couldn't complain. Service was a bit slow. I had one of the house brewed ales and it was disgusting. I couldn't drink it, and I'm not a picky beer drinker.

Came here 2 times on my half week visit to the Island. It's the only micro-brew on the island offering about 5 beers. The first night I came with friends. We had an giant order of nachos and I enjoyed a dark and stormy which was made with their homemade ginger beer. The second visit was for lunch. I had a cup of decent clam chowder and a garden salad with an amazing red thai curry vinaigrette. I was blown away by the dressing. :D The waitress was even nice enough to give me the recipe.

We ate here while on a cruise based on Yelp reviews and were not disappointed. Great mussels, clam chowder, salad and swordfish plus a very good house-brewed pilsner made for a delightful dinner. Most restaurants on Block were closed but this was a very good dining experience. nice ambiance, not too noisy and definitely worth a try for seafood and beer lovers.

Caveat - I did not try their micro-brews which seem to be immensely popula; this is a review of the service/food only. Pros: Clam Chowder was passable Cole Slaw wasn't mayo soup Cons: The rest of the food Soda was flat Service was mediocre Price My fiance and I stopped here for lunch on a brisk, windy day. She ordered a fist-sized cup of chowder for $5. We each ordered diet pepsi ($2 each) which were both flat. Her fried clam strips with cole slaw ($10) were over-breaded and very chewy. I ordered a veggie wrap ($9) which claimed on the menu to contain fresh vegetables with a vinaigrette dressing. Instead, I got the equivalent of a side salad (lettuce, tomato, red onion, with a handful of garden peas and a couple slices of mushroom), no dressing, wrapped up in a spinach tortilla, accompanied by about a half pound of greasy, skinny french fries. The meal could have been salvaged if the waitress had stopped by once to ask how our meal was or had appeared long enough for me to flag her down. By the time I got her attention, we just wanted the check and to get out. Lesson learned - skip the food and stick with beer at this popular location (or maybe throw in some pub fare like nachos)

After a fun day of surf lessons, swimming and and lounging on the beach, we decided to stop by here for dinner before the ferry. My gf and I split the portabella mushroom bruschetta appetizer and I got a side caesar salad to start. They were both very good. I tried the strawberry red ale that was brewed there. It had a unique flavor combo and it was a little different but tasty. For dinner, she got the cafe burrito which was absolutely huge(like 2 lbs) and I got the baked flounder stuffed with crab. The fish came with rice and zucchini, and it was delicious. We ended up taking half of the burrito home because it was so large. It could probably feed 2 people. I also tried the IPA, which was very drinkable but could have used some more hoppiness. The place was very busy(Saturday night mid summer) and the staff was very busy but our waiter did his best to accommodate us and I really can't fault the guy for forgetting my beer order a few times. We were there for a little longer than we expected but that's most likely because of how busy they were and the waiter couldn't get to us as fast and there were a few larger parties. I was also amazed by how affordable the place was. It cost us around $55 for 2 beers, an appetizer, 2 entrees and a side salad. I will definitely be back because I like to support craft beer and it was a good experience.

We went to Block Island for a long weekend and ended up at Mohegan Cafe for a quick bite on a Friday night. The place had a good crowd going but we were seated immediately (at a 4-top no less, and there were only 2 of us!). We each started with one of their house brews and enjoyed them. I had the apricot wheat beer and found it to be so delicious I had another. Don't mind if I do! For dinner we both had the vegetarian chili and a salad, house for me and spinach calamari for him, and found it to be just what we needed to wind down and warm up on a cool October night. This was just going to be an easy night since we were tired from a day of traveling, but ended up being one of our favorite places we visited. Staff was super nice and the atmosphere was warm and buzzing and, as my BF said, "very Conneciticut" (take that to mean what you will, but we liked it).

Nice place. Very friendly, efficient service. The fried calamari was perfectly cooked. One of us had swordfish, which was a good sized portion and cooked well. The scallop ravioli was also very good. Burger wasn't cooked right despite the fact the waitress said they were very accurate; ordered medium rare, and it was medium well. The wait staff sang an excellent, enthusiastic "happy birthday!" when they brought out dessert with a candle. Other than the burger being overcooked,, it was a very good meal. I'd definitely go back.

Perfect spot for a casual lunch or dinner on Block. The menu has something for everyone. Burgers are terrific as was the mahi mahi. Service was speedy and friendly. Drinks were generous and ambience is fun and relaxed. They were great to my almost four year old- patient while she ordered for herself and discussed the pros and cons of the various Disney princesses.

Awesome place! Enjoyed the clam chowder and drink specials. The fish and chips was the best I've ever had. Enjoy!

I don't understand why people are rating the food so highly. It's OK, but there's NOTHING exceptional about it. The mesclun of my wife's grilled tuna salad was good, the artichokes and asparagus a nice touch, but the tuna was overcooked (medium well, when she ordered medium rare), and it was a substandard piece of tuna, tough, dry and mealy. My blackened mahimahi was OK, but nothing to rave about. My kids' chicken fingers were surprisingly moist and tender. There was nothing wrong with our meals (except the tuna), but this is not 4 or 5 star food. The setting is nice, as are the people.

tried the ipa and english craft beers--both tasted the same, and not very good--switched to Nargtt in a can and was much tastier. calamari was plentiful and good- more zip would have been better. cafe burrito could easily feed two- the salsa was pretty bland, clearly made with canned tomatoes and even with generous helping of cholula. veggie burger was pretty bland too. overall very filling amd relatively cheap....not bad but certainly not good

My wife & I spent the better part of a week vacationing at Block Island and hit Mohegan for lunch one day. Great little brewpub, they brew excellent beers and have a nice casual menu. The jerk chicken sandwich I had was awesome, not too spicy or too mild with a wonderful mango chutney (not too sweet). No outside seating as others have noted, but it's right on the main street in Old Harbor with lots of windows so plenty of opportunities for people watching and great views.

They have AC and micro.beers. Believe it or.not this place is one of.the less expensive places on block.

We LOVE the Mohegan. It's always one of our favorite places to visit when we're on Block. Dave (the manager/brewmaster) makes some excellent beers. I am partial to the B.I.P.A. but have enjoyed most every other beer I have tried. Besides the beers, the other thing we really love about this place is the comparative value of the menu. Every year it seems it gets more expensive to dine on Block and the portions get smaller - but not at the Mohegan! On our most recent visit I enjoyed the calamari & spinach salad (only $13!!) which provided me with an ample amount of spinach salad with bacon dressing and was topped with a full appetizer sized portion of perfectly fried & tender calamari. My husband enjoyed a special for the day - scallops over seafood ravioli in a rich pesto cream sauce. He shared with every adult at the table (4 of us) and also provided the majority of the meal to our hearty-eating three year old and STILL said he had too much food left for himself. (his family nicknamed him the seagull because he never stops eating) Our friends said they had the best buffalo wings they'd ever eaten and the most delicious Dark & Stormy on the island. The Mohegan may not have outside seating like many of the other places, but the food and value totally make up for it... worse case scenario, make this your go to place when the weather isn't so perfect.

This place is awesome. Just off the ferry. Service is fast and friendly, the establishment is clean and inviting. And the food is delicious. Highly recommended after getting off the ferry before getting your bike!

I stayed at the Water Street Inn (located right above the Mohegan Cafe) while visiting Block Island, so I was very excited to have a bar right underneath of me. The location is great and the staff is very friendly. The food was mediocre. The wings need more sauce and spice and the calamari was a little bit too chewy. The beer (which is brewed on site) was delicious and reasonably priced. Its a great place to drink, but in my opinion, there is better places to eat on the island. If you go, you gotta try the High Octane beer. Soooo good.

Right on Water St and great views. Pretty good victuals and a very sweet spot to get a good buzz. Fills up with tourists during the summer but in the off season is taken over by the eccentric and heavy drinking locals, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Best meal I've had on Block Island. Good portion sizes and definitely delicious. BBQ beef sandwiches are made with prime rib, what's not to like? Spinach calamari salad- super yummy! Good beers, though I wish they had a better n.a. selection- why must O'Doul's be the default?

Fantastic place. Food is excellent. Staff is friendly and attentive. And ambiance is great. Just outside the ferry stop, I recommend eating here before picking up your bikes or going about your day. Highly recommend Mark as your server. Really nice guy and made excellent recommendations!

You might ask why one would come to a microbrewery and drink a Bloody Mary instead? Mainly, it's because it came so highly recommended by the locals. And, oh my, is its acclaim well deserved. I, who has never really liked the Bloody Mary, am now convinced of its awesomeness. All it really took to make me a fan was a well prepared Bloody. The bloody arrived served over ice, yet never became too diluted as I sipped it along with my meal. Plus, as a fan of spicy foods, I appreciated the kick I got from the addition of Tabasco and fresh pepper. The cocktail came generously garnished with olives, pickles, lemon wedges, and celery stalks. The Bloody was the perfect accompaniment to my balsamic-glazed grilled portobello mushrooms, zucchini and freshly fire-roasted red peppers over creamy, smooth, and decadent polenta. My friends also enjoyed some of Mohegan's micro brews (4-5 daily specials prepared on-premises) and eclectic pub fare while relaxing in an air-conditioned dining room after a long bike ride across the Island. For those who have some time to spare before picking up a ferry at the Old Harbour, this should be a destination. The food is lovely and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly.

I've been here several times. . .both in season and off season. During the winter I had a steak dinner which was fairly good. I recall thinking the steak was overseasoned but i left full and satisfied. I have since had more 'bar fare' than formal dinners. I can comment on the burger (burlington burger) it was good. It came with fries and i'd rate it a 6/10. I'd get it again. I ordered a salad with it but i felt the salad was too 'cold'. YOu know that icy sort of lettuce feeling when you bite into it? It was like that. The house dressing was a vinegar type and was okay. I wish i had ordered a different dressing. The coconut shrimp came as 4 and were good. I'd rate and 8/10 and the dipping sauce was good. The chicken wings buffalo were nothing exciting but I've decided that in the realm of buffalo chix wings i'm never really happy. They were just too wet. I prefer more crisp, less of a buffalo bath. When your mouth is on fire it's hard to know if they're good. The beer selection is home brew and good. The bar service is attentive. THe gin and tonics are a good pour. I'd eat here again and probably try more things on the menu.

We had lunch here on a Sunday. We arrived right when it opened at 11:30 and were seated at a window facing Water Street. I ordered the Low-Carb Chicken and my wife got the South Beach Burger. The food was terrific - good sized portions, flavorful and reasonably-priced. As the only brew pub on Block Island, I had to try one of their ales; the High Octane was excellent! Service was excellent - attentive without being obtrusive. We'll be going back to Mohegan on our next visit to Block Island.

I did a day trip to BI this past weekend and it was my first time there. Since it was mid-May, it was still considered off-season and not many restaurants were open. I found the Mohegan Cafe while walking by and liked the menu, so gave it a try for lunch (they were one of a few open). The employees all happily greeted me at the door and were very friendly. I tried one of their own brews, I think it was the I.P.A. and it was damn good! For lunch I ordered one of their daily specials: Blackened Mahi sandwich. I honestly wasn't expecting anything that great being its a tourist destination and boy was I pleasantly surprised! The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the sandwich toppings were all fresh. I opted for coleslaw instead of fries and they give you a ton of it! Service wise, my server was very prompt and I had my food in what seemed to be less then 5 minutes! For the quality, quantity, and service, i was shocked to see my bill was only $14! $9 for my sandwich and $4.50 for my beer. I'd highly recommend this place and will be returning next time i'm on the island!

I went to Block Island for the day with my cousin and fully intended to make it to the Mohegan Cafe for calamari before we left--had it years ago there and LOVED it--this time however we ended up ordering garden salads and burgers. I still can't believe how FANTASTIC it was! The salads were not your average "I can't believe I'm paying $4.50 for a bowl of lettuce with a couple of tomatoes and a cucumber slice on it!"--these salads were ARTFULLY put together in a DELICIOUS, NUTRITIOUS, COLORFUL way with all kinds a beautiful and FRESH veggies! Topped with the THAI RED CURRY VINAIGRETTE and you have a WINNER! Then the burger came like it was grilled right in your own backyard--fresh, juicy (and perfectly done medium/well like I requested)--all glamorously draped with melted aged cheddar cheese and garnished with the classic fixings of sliced tomato, red onion and fresh lettuce! Seriously, I'm still salivating thinking about it (isn't it obvious?), it was clear to me that the food is made with LOVE and CONSCIENTIOUSNESS at Mohegan Cafe and I can't wait to go back as soon as I can! It was a pleasant surprise to be on "vacay for the day" and have a deliciously healthy meal in a place where you very well could expect to find the "typical tourist trap crap" everywhere you go so they can skimp to make the fast buck. Not true at the Mohegan Cafe! Between the food and the warm, cozy decor (kids welcome too!) your needs for food and comfort will be met. I also want to say how wonderfully friendly and helpful our waitress Lindsay was. She got me the recipe for the salad dressing because I loved it so much! Thank you Lindsay! :-)

A couple of years ago we came to BI the day after Columbus Day, and we ate at Mohegan Cafe because it was one of only two or three restaurants that remained open. We had a great meal though, so returned here on our trip last week. My cod was perfectly cooked, so moist and well seasoned. My husband asked them to do blackened salmon Caesar salad - not on the menu, but they accommodated his request.
